Making the wellness of yoga accessible to all - regardless of age, shape, size or physical condition
Yoga Among Friends was established in 1998. Here, we honor the traditional practice of yoga under the umbrella of Krishamachaga. We follow the teachings of Mr. Iyengar, Patti Jois, and TKV Deskichar. Our mission is to encourage our students to discover inner peace and mental well-being through a regular practice, using the tools of yoga. These tools are not limited to the physical body. We honor all the tools including meditation, visualization, breath, chanting, and self-reflection, in order to remove the agitations of our daily thoughts and bring peace to our lives.
Classes at Yoga Among Friends are "drop in" which means that each class is an on-going class and students may join at anytime. Our certified teachers tailor the classes to meet the needs of those present. Each teacher has completed over 200 or 500 hours of training with recognized yoga masters and are dedicated to their own continuing education. They are proficient at working with all levels of yoga students. Most classes last for 90 minutes, and classes are available seven days a week. Check out our class schedule for more information.
The center provides basic yoga props: mats, blocks, blankets, pillows and straps. You don't have to bring anything, although you are welcome to bring your own. Changing rooms are available so you can come on your way to work, on your way home, or at midday. We are considerate to those who are "scent" sensitive and restrict the use of incense and scented candle burning. We are not handicap accessible.
At Yoga Among Friends, we teach yoga in a safe, relaxed and open environment. Here is where potlucks and fundraisers are given, and friendships form. Here is community. Here is yoga — among friends — in a space that welcomes all at whatever stage of the journey. At Yoga Among Friends, we encourage you to be yourself to grow and let go, and to know that you are among friends.
